The Grimm Chronicles: Ten Mythical Creatures and Giveaway!

Hey everyone! I'm back with part two of The Grimm Chronicles blog tour today with Volume 2! I didn't review this one this time, but I have an awesome Tens list from the author of Top Ten Mythical Creatures You've Never Heard Of! Here's the Schedule for the rest of the tour!

The Grimm Chronicles Volume 2

200 years ago, the Brothers Grimm changed everything.

With the help of a little magic, fairy tales were made real, manifesting all over the world. Charming princes. Gold-hunting dwarfs. Terrible step-mothers. Heroic animals.

Then, slowly, they began to change. Everyone—from Prince Charming to the old miller—grew more evil. Corrupted. A hero was chosen to stop them, hunting them down one by one and destroying them with the help of a magic pen and a special rabbit assistant.

For 200 years, the hero’s magic pen has been passed on from generation to generation. The newest hero is Alice Goodenough, an 18-year-old junior from Washington High School. While her friends spent their summer working and having fun, Alice found herself doing battle with creatures most human beings don’t even realize exist. A giant snake. A blood-sucking prince. A terrifying half-man, half-hedgehog. Dastardly dwarfs intent on mind-controlling everyone who uses a cell phone.

Now, senior year has begun. With it comes a new challenge at school, where bullies have grown bolder and classes more challenging. As if that’s not enough, Alice must face off against a collection of Corrupted who all share a terrible secret, one that might awaken a creature capable of doing untold damage. To uncover the secret, Alice will have to face off against a man-eating lizard, a bloodthirsty sea captain, and a mysterious wizard who can see into the future …

Top Ten Mythical Creatures You've Never Heard of:

These creatures are just screaming to be put into a story. The world is full of great myths that can draw inspiration for creative minds ...

1. The Aswang
From Filipino folklore, this humanoid creature devoured corpses. They're shape-shifters, they sometimes have a weird, straw-like mouth, and they have a taste for children. Unborn children.

2. Datsue-ba
This Japanese spirit steals the clothes of dead children. When a child dies, he or she has to cross the Sanzu River, according to Buddhist tradition. So this Datsue-ba spirit comes along and tries to take dead kids' clothes. Worse, she takes the clothes of adults, and hangs them on the branch of a tree by the river. If the branch bends, the adult is a sinner and is punished accordingly!

3. Encantado
Portuguese for "Enchanted One." This creature comes from an underwater realm, and usually takes the form of a dolphin. But this creature can also turn into a human. In addition to enjoying parties, music, and--ahem!--other humanly pleasures, these creatures are drawn to hardships of human society as well.

4. Funayurei
Drowned ghosts who approach boats, asking for a utensil for scooping up water. Don't give it to them! They have a tendency to use the utensil to scoop water right into your boat!

5. Karkadann
The Persian unicorn, basically. Only a little scarier, like a cross between a buffalo and a rhino. Inspired lots of poetry.

6. Uktena
From Native American mythology, this horned serpent can mess you up bad. Almost impossible to kill, and when you see it, you're magically drawn to it. Then, once you get close enough to smell its breath, you die. Because its breath is toxic.

7. The Pricolici
Leave it up to the Romanians to have a monster that starts out as a werewolf and then, once you kill it ... it turns into a vampire. Oy! And don't expect killing it is going to be easy. The Pricolici starts out as a pretty big wolf, and it prefers prey who are walking alone at night.

8.Spearfinger
A Cherokee witch who haunts the Appalachian mountains to this day. She has. A spear. For. A. Finger. As if that isn't enough, her dress is made of stone. And her favorite dish is liver.

9. Uma-no-ashi
I can't find much description of this creature, but what I have found sounds awesome. It is, quite literally, a horse leg dangling from a tree. When some passes by, the hose leg kicks him. That's all I know. That's all I need to know.

10. The Bannik
A Slavic creature who spent lots of time in the sauna. Just leave him alone in there! Upsetting the Bannik while he's taking a steam means getting a pot of boiling water poured over your head. If you are feeling risky, you could keep your back to him and ask him to see into your future. If good things are coming, he'll gently rub your back. If bad things are coming, though, he'll swipe you with his claws. Irony!
