Short Story: Free Four by Veronica Roth

Short Story Saturday was created by 365 Days of Reading. Because I post my hauls on Saturdays, I shall be posting any Short Story reviews on Sundays! I won't have SSS up every single Sunday.

ebook, 13 pagesPublished April 23rd 2012 by Katherine Tegen Books#1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth retells a pivotal Divergent scene (chapter 13) from Tobias's point of view. This thirteen-page scene reveals unknown facts and fascinating details about Four's character, his past, his own initiation, and his thoughts about new Dauntless initiate Tris Prior.

While I really liked the new perspective and that we got to learn more about Four and how his mind works, I wish there had been more! I read this in about ten minutes, if that, and while I liked this short story, I was kind of expecting more. I'm dying for Allegiant and was hoping Free Four would tide me over for a while for the Divergent world, if that makes sense. But it just left me wanting more. I'm going to do a reread of the series shortly before Allegiant is released and am so excited! I almost want to do it now, but I know that will absolutely kill me.

Happy reading!

Set in the romantic and death-defying world of the international bestselling Die for Me trilogy, this digital original novella follows Jules, a brooding, immortal French artist who has fallen in love with his best friend’s girlfriend.
Jules Marchenoir is a revenant-an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save human lives. He’s spent the better part of the last century flirting his way through Paris, but when he met Kate Mercier, the heroine from Amy Plum’s Die for Me trilogy, he knew his afterlife had changed forever and he had found the love of his life. Until Kate fell for his best friend, Vincent. Now Jules is faced with an impossible decision: choosing between his loyal friend and a love truly worth dying for.

I enjoyed this book a lot, although it also irritated me quite a bit. I   liked Jules a lot in the full series, but never really saw him with Kate, so it was hard reading this, as I truly believe it's Kate and Vincent, all the way. But it was nice to dive back into the world of the revenants for a little bit, before I read If I Should Die. I enjoyed the writing and the different perspective. Jules is really cool and complex and is an enjoyable character. It was nice to see who he truly is. All in all, this was a good one!

Before thirty-five girls were chosen to compete in the Selection...

Before Aspen broke America's heart...

There was another girl in Prince Maxon's life...
Don't miss this thrilling 128-page original novella set in the world of the New York Times bestselling novel The Selection. Also features a teaser to The Elite, Kiera Cass's hotly anticipated sequel to The Selection.

I started this in preparation for The Elite, hoping it would be kind of a nice re-introduction to the world of Maxon and America and    am glad to say this book was very enjoyable!

Going into The Prince, I was expecting more of a secret romance type thing of the past, that Maxon hides from everyone, but it was a bit different. There wasn't a lot that actually happened in The Prince, but it was nice to get a bit of a peek into the mind of Illea's most eligible bachelor!

Maxon was a cool protagonist. I love male POVs and Maxon's was fantastic just because he's so proper and yet also awkward and funny and I just adore him!

I definitely enjoyed The Prince and would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed The Selection!

Short Story: Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi

Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.
In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .
Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.
Set after Shatter Me and before its forthcoming sequel, Unravel Me,Destroy Me is a novella told from the perspective of Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

This novella does not help my case in trying to convince myself that I hate Warner... Ladies and gentlemen, it is true. Warner has wormed his way into my heart and there he will stay for the next little while.. Huh. Who would've thought.

Destroy Me gives the reader a fantastic insight into Warner's mind. We get to see all of his analytical thoughts, the way he sorts everything in his brain. We get to witness his weak moments that break my heart, his moments of as much sympathy as he can muster... Warner was put in a new light for me.

I loved reading Tahereh's writing in someone's POV other than Juliette. It was so different and yet I still sensed her style. I was engrossed in the story until the very end and I didn't want it to stop. I want to read more from Warner's perspective! He is so interesting and so mysterious and I can't help but want to know more about this character I used to despise. We learn more about his family, see some of his father, learn about what Warner does for work.. We get to see his world and why he is this ruthless leader. His thoughts and the things he thinks but doesn't believe them to be wrong or inappropriate... And of course, if you've read Unravel Me, you'll know that it was kind of cool seeing what else he can do.

Destroy Me made me just so much more excited for the finale of this beautiful trilogy. It made me fall in love with Tahereh Mafi's writing again and I was so glad I got to see what goes on in the head of Warner.

Happy reading!
