Review: Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Hey guys, how are you? I decided it was due time for my review on Everneath by Brodi Ashton, so instead of a meme today, I'll just let you know what I thought of this book! It was a pretty great book, but it wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be. I think I had set the bar a little too high for this one!

Author: Brodi Ashton
Publisher: Harper Collins / Balzer + Bray
Page Count: 370 pages, Hardcover
Date Published: January 24th 2012

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

My rating: 4/5 stars - I'd recommend it for sure, but it didn't 'wow' me like I thought it would.

I should just get this out of my system so that I don't go on a total rant later... I'm kinda, sorta, totally Team Cole. I know, I know! He's supposed to be terrible and mean and all that, but I really like him! Which is weird, because I almost always lean towards the guys like Jack in books like this! But I didn't actually like Jack that much until more towards the end. He really annoyed me at first, but then he gradually got better as a character. That was sort of how I felt for the entire book. The beginning was slow, didn't grasp my attention as much as it could have. But towards the middle it got so much better! Being a pretty huge mythology buff, this story was really intriguing. I love the myth of Persephone, so I really enjoyed the story in the book. Does that make sense? I guess I mean to say that I liked the plot. It was suspenseful but not... scary. Nikki wasn't my favorite protagonist ever, but I liked her in this story. I felt really terrible at the end of the story for both her and Jack, but that is all I'm going to say! I'm really excited for the sequel to come out next year!

So, that's it for today... I know, I've been working on Hallowed for what seems like a really long time, but I'm just not in the fantasy/paranormal mood right now. :( I finished the DUFF last night and I'm making good progress in the Emerald Quest! I'm hoping to post at least one more review this week as well! Plus.... less than two days until the Hunger Games movie!!!!!!! Who's excited!?

Have a good evening/day/night/morning, (whichever applies to your timezone!) everyone!
